A top official of US President Joe Biden’s administration said that Pakistan is facing a dire threat of terrorism due to continuous terrorist activities in the areas bordering Afghanistan. During US Congressional proceedings on Wednesday (March 20) regarding the recent elections in Pakistan, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu told members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee that the conflict in Afghanistan has been going on for 40 years. Lu said that the end of the conflict in Afghanistan provides an opportunity for all of us to build relations with Pakistan on our own terms and we are committed to doing so. . He said, ‘Now one of our main goals with Pakistan is that we have to support the Pakistani people because currently they are facing the terrible threat of terrorism. Many members have discussed this, but this is a country where people have suffered like this under the threat of terrorism.’

‘In the last three years, especially Khyber,’ Lu said. Terrorist attacks have increased rapidly in Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Attacks are being carried out from Afghan territory. He said, ‘On Saturday, a major terrorist attack was carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in which seven policemen were killed. We call on the Afghan Taliban to ensure that its territory is not used as a staging ground for terrorist groups.’

On Saturday in the restive tribal district of North Waziristan, bordering Afghanistan. Five soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Captain, were killed in multiple suicide attacks by six terrorists at a security check post. At the same time, after this the Pakistani Army claimed that it has killed all the six terrorists who attacked the check post in Mir Ali area. Pakistan retaliated on Monday by carrying out air strikes on terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. Lu further said that it is also important for Pakistan to pay attention to economic stability.
